American children eat as much salt as adults - about 1,000 milligrams too much, or the same amount as in just one Big Mac. Extra salt is linked with higher blood pressure, even in kids, but government research says those who are overweight and obese may be most vulnerable to its effects.
    

Finding Healthy Eating Choices at the State Fair

North Memorial Medical Center has come up with a list of healthier choices if you plan to do some eating at the Minnesota State Fair; items like watermelon, almonds, Greek yogurt, milk, chicken-on-a-stick, salads, and sushi.

The hospital is also offering offering free health screenings.

USDA Releases New School Lunch Standards

Minnesota school lunches will be getting a little healthier next school year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently released new standards for school lunches, which will go into effect this September. Updated breakfast standards will go into effect September 2013.
