National Voter Registration Day Hosted Sept. 25

If you haven’t registered to vote for this year’s election, you can join thousands of volunteers, celebrities, and organizations on National Voter Registration Day.

The initiative is meant to create widespread awareness of voter registration opportunities throughout the country. It takes place Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Minn. Candidates Begin Filing to Run for Office

Candidates have begun filing to run for elected positions ranging from the Minnesota Legislature to the U.S. Congress.
    
The filing period for the 2012 election opened Tuesday at the Secretary of State's office and continues through June 5.
    

Bill to Raise Hunting, Fishing License Fees Stalls in Senate

A proposal to raise hunting and fishing license fees has been put on hold in the Minnesota Senate.

Republican author Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen tabled the bill after he attempted to add Senate language that includes the fee hikes to a House-passed bill without the increases. His amendment was defeated on 27-39 vote, with lawmakers in both parties split.
